Stephen W Rutherford

Stephen (Steve) Rutherford, age 61, departed to his eternal home prepared for him by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 25th at Baptist Floyd in New Albany, Indiana, after a long affliction with Muscular Dystrophy.  Steve was born to Francis Rutherford and Leora Bush Rutherford in Salem, Indiana on May 17, 1961.  Steve was a lifelong resident of Washington County, graduating from Pekin Eastern High School in 1979.  He then went on to study at Indiana University Southeast for two years.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Leora Rutherford, his sister, Grace Ann Bowers, and her husband, Marvin.  Steve is survived by his brother, David Rutherford (Judy), of Salem, Indiana, his sister, Becky Rutherford of Salem, Indiana, nieces, Ashley Barnett (Richard) and Kristin Stricker (Tim).  He also was a great uncle to three grandnieces and two grandnephews.  Steve is also survived by his life friend and caregiver, Kevin Lang (LeiAnn) of Pulltight, Indiana.

Steve was a lifelong studier of God’s Word and a Prayer Warrior.  While he was able, he attended the Salem Nazarene Church.  Steve worked on the farms of Cleo Stephenson and Leon Ford, he then moved to production jobs at Kimball in Borden, Tecumseh and Jean’s Extrusions in Salem.  He also worked in sporting goods at PAMIDA in Salem.  Steve liked UK and IU basketball, but only watching IU games after they would win as he hated to see them lose.  He enjoyed riding roller coasters and driving the numerous sports cars and motorcycles he owned throughout the years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3 at 2PM at Weathers Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Freeland officiating.  Burial will immediately follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday from Noon until the time of service.
