Sarah E. Johnson, 91, of Salem, Indiana passed away at 8PM Thursday, October 15, 2015, at the Crossing after an illness. Her family and friends were at her side. She moved to Salem from Macomb, Illinois, where she had lived and worked on a farm for 50 years with her farmer husband, Lilbern (Spud) Johnson, who died in 1987.
She was the daughter of a Presbyterian minister, Rev. Ira McClymonds and his wife Edyth Taylor McClymonds (deceased). Her brothers Ira, Clarence and sister Margery Neibling preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Lois Hudson of Sparks, Nevada, daughters Jean Pechtel, Elgin, Illinois and Roseanne Quatroke (John) of Salem, granddaughter Nancy Chambers, Salem, great-granddaughters Madison and Ella, as well as close friends she considered to be sons and daughters.
She attended the University of Missouri and taught home economics and biology in rural Illinois schools before her marriage. She enjoyed cooking, music, and art, and had an insatiable curiosity on all topics. She was a member of Scotland Trinity Presbyterian Church in Macomb, Illinois and Awareness Washington County, NAMI, and Writer’s Bloc in Salem.
She was loved by all who knew her for her warm heart and caring ways. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her honor to the charity of your choice.
There will be no visitation or services. Weathers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.
