“Granny” Ruth Helen Hacker, age 85, of Salem, Indiana peacefully passed away Monday morning, January 24, 2022. She was born February 24, 1936, in the beautiful hills of Leslie County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Scott and Maggie Hacker.
Granny Ruth is rejoicing in Heaven with her parents and following siblings; Paul and sister in-law Lucille Hacker, Pearl Hacker, Reba June and brother in-law Denver Begley, Anna Ritter-Hacker, brother in-law William Campbell, Scott Hacker Jr., and Judy Parks.
She was a faithful viewer of Days of Our Lives, Let’s Make a Deal, Big Brother, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy after retiring from Smith’s Cabinet in Salem. You could also find Granny Ruth playing solitaire at the dining room table. The same dining room table she would serve her famous biscuits and gravy, macaroni and tomatoes, and fresh snapped half-runners with cornbread.
Granny Ruth is survived by her son, Wayne (Sue) Hacker and daughter Shannon (John) Bridgewater, both of Salem; and the following siblings; Cora Sue Bea Campbell, Nanny (Larry) Minter, Jack Hacker, Linda (Myron) Compton, sister in-law Claudia Hacker and brother in-law Jim Parks. Granny had four grandchildren; Josh (Tera) Mull, Ian Hacker, Eric Hacker, and Sara Hacker, two great grandchildren; Khloe Mull and Adam Mull and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind countless more family and friends who will dearly miss her.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Winslow Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10AM-time of service.
