Phyllis Carol Banks Barkley age 64 of Peewee Valley, Kentucky, formerly of Salem, passed away Wednesday, March 27 at her home surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born October 11, 1948 in New Albany, Indiana to Harold and Letha Chastain Banks. She graduated from Paoli High School and attended Spenciarian Business College. After working in Salem, Indiana for many years, she moved to Peewee Valley to work as a nanny for her great-nieces, Liz and Allie Cornwell when they were adopted from China. She loved reading, cooking, traveling, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Westview Christian Church, Southeast Christian Church, a Women's Bible Study and the Friendly Neighbors Homemaker's Club.
She is survived by her daughters: Kelly Capps of Louisville, Kentucky and Stacy Williams (Keith) of Seymour, Indiana, granddaughter: Alexis Williams, brother: Herbert Banks (Carolyn) of Bedford, Indiana, sister: Martha Banks Cornwell (Marvin) of Salem, and a host of other family and friends.
A service honoring the life of Phyllis will be held Saturday at 11:00AM at Westview Christian Church. Burial will follow in Stampers Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8PM at the funeral home and Saturday from 9AM-time of service at the church.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to Mayo Clinic, American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Koman Foundation.
