Mildred Smith age 93 of Evansville, formerly of Campbellsburg, passed away Tuesday, January 22 at Pine Haven Nursing Center in Evansville.
She was born August 17, 1919 the oldest of ten children of John W. and Elma Phipps Nicholson.
On February 24, 1938 she married Verlie Smith.
She was a member of Sugar Creek Christian Church and had attended Northwest Church of Christ since moving to Evansville.
She enjoyed being with people and doing crafts, playing Scrabble and Bingo. Before moving to Evansville, she volunteered at Washington County Memorial Hospital gift shop.
She retired from the dietary department at West Washington School and the dietary department of Washington County Memorial Hospital. She loved to cook and bake.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband: Verlie Smith, her son: Duane Smith, grandson: Stephen Lanham, parents: John and Elma Nicholson, brothers: Maurice, Laurel, Cecil, and John David Nicholson, and a sister: Bethel Knapp.
She is survived by her daughter: Leta Barger, a grandson: Luther Lanham, brothers: Leo Nicholson of Pekin, Wayne Nicholson of Salem and Philip Nicholson of Campbellsburg, a sister: Phyllis Maudlin of Evansville and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
MIldred touched the lives of many people, especially the staff and residents of Pine Haven Nursing Center.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pine Haven nursing staff for the wonderful care and love given to Mildred.
