Mr. Michael Allen Setser, age 72, of Salem, passed away Sunday, January 30 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.
Mr. Setser was born March 2, 1949, in New Albany, Indiana the son of Robert Floyd and Vivian Lucille Cox Setser. He graduated from Salem High School in 1968 and then from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church, Captain of the Blue River Fire Department and a member of the District Board for 2 years. Michael served in the US Navy as Honor Guard for the USS Constitution or “Old Iron Sides”. He became a disabled veteran and retired from the Navy after receiving injuries on the US Puget Sound A.D. 38 in New Port, Rhode Island. After his retirement from military service, he worked for GKN for 36 years.
Michael is survived by his wife: Kathy Spaulding Setser, two sons: Bob Setser (Heather) of Eckerty and Bryan Setser (Heather) of Salem, a daughter: Melissa Cauble (Chris) of Salem, and eight grandchildren: Devin Cauble, Allison Cauble, Riley Setser, Emily Setser, Madison Setser, Sophia Setser, Dillon Whitfield, and Chanda Whitfield.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11AM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8PM and Wednesday from 9Am-time of service.
