Mary J (Chastain) Owsley

Mrs. Mary J. Owsley of Campbellsburg passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in Scottsburg, surrounded by her children and husband.

Mary was born March 11, 1930 in Salem, Indiana to Clyde I. and Maude Turley Chastain, who preceded her in death. A graduate of Campbellsburg High School, she is survived by her husband: Billy G. Owsley whom she married on December 4, 1949. Mary is also survived by her four children: Rhea Dawn Green of Pekin, Darrell (Tracy) Owsley of Salem, J.D. ( Kay) Owsley of Campbellsburg, and Lisa (Roger) Conrad of Fredericksburg, eight beloved grandchildren: Ryan (Amber Shocke) Jackson, Mandy (Josh) Jackson Cain, Morgan (Ashley) Conrad, Clayton (Ashly) Owsley, Dylan (Amber) Conrad, Shelby (Ritchie Gilliat) Green, Courtney (Luke) Seeley and Gary R. Hook II. Ten great-grandchildren: Chase and Reese Jackson, Jayli and Jozalin Cain, Emery Haub, Kinley and Neely Conrad, Graham and Spencer Owsley and Charlotte Seeley.

Mary is also survived by her twin sister: Martha (Frederic) Ingram of Salem and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to mother and homemaker, Mary was a former employee of the old B.F. Goodrich plant in Salem and the Charlestown Ammo Plant. Mary and Billy operated a Charolais cattle operation for many years and owned the Owsley Limestone Company of Salem until retiring in 1986.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a sister: Dorothy Mitchell and five brothers: Emmet, Paul, Bruce, Phillip and Roger Chastain.

Over the years, Mary with Billy were regular fixtures at any event involving their children or grandchildren; sporting events, county fair cattle shows, whatever it was, Mary and Billy was there to support and cheer them on.

Mary formerly played piano at Westview Christian Church, where she was a member and active in the Ladies Aid and Prime Timers groups.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00AM at Westview Christian Church. Burial will follow in Livonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8PM at the funeral home and Friday form 9-11AM at the church.
