Loren Homer Zink, 91, of Campbellsburg, IN, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 27, 2022. He was a member of Mt. Tabor Christian church where he served as a past deacon and trustee.
Loren was a lifelong resident of Vernon Township in Washington County, Indiana. He was born September 7, 1930, to Russell Cleo Zink and Leona Fern Stephenson Zink. An only child, he grew up helping his dad farm and attended White Rose School nearby. He graduated from Campbellsburg High School in May of 1948.
On October 14, 1948, he married Luda Marie Hammond. They celebrated many anniversaries together including their 60th. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2011.
Loren was a farmer, but also worked at BF Goodrich and the Charlestown Powder Factory. He was a logger, and you could count on him to know how to fell a tree right. He was also a master salesman and sold Conklin Products and was a dealer for Beck’s Seed Corn. He and Luda traveled to many states and enjoyed trips with their fellow Beck’s dealers. He was a member of the Sunset Motorcycle Club and the Coon Hunters Club. He always enjoyed riding motorcycles, competing in hill climbs and also just for pleasure. He also enjoyed tractor pulling and boating.
Many friends and family members learned to ski behind Loren’s many boats on Patoka or Cumberland Lake. He enjoyed taking people for a spin and for the adventurous, he could give one wild ride on a tube.
In his retirement he spent countless hours on genealogy and co-authored a book on the Zink and Stephenson-Maudlin families. His family meant everything to him and he was always proud to say that most all of his family lived in Washington county so holidays were very special.
He and Luda had three children: Kathie Green (Roger); Rickie Zink (Patty); all of Campbellsburg and Joe Zink (Dee Dee) of Salem. They have 7 grandchildren: Julie Green Garrison of Floyds Knobs; Jeremy Green (April) of Salem; Nathan Zink (Tristan); Natalie Zink Kelley (Brad); and Lauren Zink Churchman (Corey) all of Campbellsburg; and Eric Zink (Allison) and Jason Zink of Salem.
15 great-grandchildren: Alexis Green of Campbellsburg; Spencer, Knox and Lennox Green of Salem; Brooke Garrison Hall (Logan) of Fredericksburg and Taylor Garrison of Houston, TX; Kamden, Kaden and Kree Zink; Jace, Moxen and Rosie Kelley; Ronan and Ellis Churchman, all of Campbellsburg; and Charlie Russell Zink of Salem. They also have two great-great-granddaughters Monroe and Taytum Hall of Fredericksburg.
Loren will be missed by his family and his caregivers at Amedisys Hospice who enjoyed his many stories during the past year.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11AM at Mt. Tabor Christian Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8PM at Weathers Funeral Home and Monday from 10AM-time of service at the church.
