Laura Ruth Lofton

Mrs. Laura “Ruth” Lofton, age 93, of Salem, passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 4:30 A.M.

She was born June 8, 1928 to the late Leslie E. Stroud and Lillian Kraft Stroud in Hardinsburg, IN. She grew up on the family farm in the Hardinsburg area and was a member of the Hardinsburg Bearcats graduating class of 1946.

On October 9, 1948, Ruth married the late Douglas E. Lofton of Fredericksburg, IN. From this union, they had 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth was the owner/operator of Ruth Lofton’s Beauty Salon in Salem for many years. She considered herself very fortunate to be able to enjoy her profession as a hairdresser that she chose at the early age of eight. Her clients were not just customers but, most became close friends as well. She also enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, yard sales, cooking, boating, flying, and family get togethers.

Ruth was very grateful for her family and considered herself blessed to have been such a big part of their lives. She was very proud to be a daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She will be greatly missed by her family.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Leslie and Lillian Stroud; her husband: Douglas E. Lofton, a brother: Verlin “Bud” Stroud, a sister: Lorraine Agan, 2 grandsons, and a nephew: Dale Stroud.

Ruth is survived by her children, 2 sons: Robert D. Lofton (Deborah) of Madison, IN, and Phillip E. Lofton (Jane) of Salem: 1 daughter: Ruth Ann Eakin (James) of Frederick Maryland. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Melissa, Joni, Jackie,

Stephanie, Jetta, Travis, Lori, and Bryce, 5 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Douglas, Dylan, Shea, and Kilie, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a nephew: Gary Agan, and a niece: Karen Panetta.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 13 at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home. With Toney McCutcheon officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10AM until time of service at the funeral home.
