John Lee Purkhiser

Mr. John Lee Purkhiser age 79 of Salem died Saturday, August 15 at University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville.

Mr. Purkhiser was born July 17, 1936 in Salem the son of Caress L. and Effie Miller Purkhiser.  He was a farmer.  John Lee was a member and Elder of Fort Hill Church of Christ where he had served as song leader since 1981 and was also a Sunday School teacher.  He was a former member of the Barber Shop Quarter and Farmer’s Club.  He was former director of Wash/Scott County Co-op and was a member of Washington County Cattleman’s Association.  He was an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife:  Rebecca Lou Hobbs Purkhiser.  They were married August 22, 1958.  He is also survived by two daughters:  Julie Holsapple (Mike) of Springville, Indiana and Allison Walker (Greg) of Columbus, a brother:  Harry Purkhiser of Hudson, New Hampshire and 7 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a brother:  Ralph E. Purkhiser and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00PM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 4-8PM and Tuesday from 9AM-time of service.
