Joe Shirley Jr.

Mr.  Joe Shirley Jr. age 82 of Salem passed away Wednesday, September 30 at 1:50AM at Meadow View Health Care and Rehab.

Mr. Shirley was born October 27, 1932 in Tampico, Indiana the son of Joseph Eli Shirley and Francis Young Shirley Huls.  He was an employee of Jackson County Sheriff’s Department from 1967-1996 and was an employee of Arvin’s in Columbus for 29 years.  He was a member of F.O.P. and Washington Masonic Lodge #23, where he was also past master.  He was also a member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis and Indiana Shriners.

He is survived by his wife:  Lee Anna Davidson Shirley.  They were married May 12, 1951.  He is also survived by two daughters:  Sandra Kay Donnell of Crothersville and Stephanie Jo Prewitt of Salem, a brother:  Leon Shirley of North Vernon, five sisters:  Maribell Hickerson  and Janet Lewis both of Crothersville, Jean Stark of Brownstown, Catherine Mantz of Seymour and Sherry Nava of Illinois, five grandchildren:  Kalee Alberring, James Douglas Prewitt, Randa Petro, Samantha Donnell and Kara Bohall, five great-grandchildren:  Nehemiah, Asher, Gabriel, Parker and Abigale.  He was preceded in death by his son:  Randall Leroy Shirley, two brothers:  Richard and Ermine Shirley, two sisters:  Ida Marie Morgan and Margarite Boas and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00PM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Crothersville Cemetery.  Visitation will be Saturday from 10AM-time of service.
