Jean Gertrude (Wininger) Robbins

May 22, 1926 — December 4, 2015

Jean Gertrude Wininger Robbins left this earthly life on December 4, 2015, at age 89 years and 6 months.  A resident of Salem since 1946, she was born in Henryville, Indiana on May 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Clyde and Bessie Moser Wininger.  Jean was one of 13 children.  She had 9 brothers:  Clyde, Smith, Harry, Bob, Bill, Walter, Jim, Melvin and an infant male brother and 3 sisters:  Ethel Hawk, Val Arnett and Wilma Munden.  Her parents, 8 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death.

Jean married Harold Thomas Robbins of Salem in 1947.  She graduated from Henryville High School in 1947.

She was a lifetime member of the Salem Presbyterian Church.  She lived singing in the church choir, Jean was a homemaker.  She took in ironings to earn extra money in her early years and babysat for many of her grandchildren.  Jean was a walker since she never learned to drive, she would walk everywhere, to church, to town, and if she didn’t have any place to go she would walk around the yard.  She always did  her laundry with a wringer washer.

She is survived by her husband:  Harold, her 4 children:  Harold Thomas Robbins Jr. (Suzanne) of Salem, Jerry Wayne Robbins (Karen) of Salem, Pamela Jean Ingram (Lonnie) of Salem and Carolyn Jo Adkins (Bert) of Salem, her 10 grandchildren:  Shawna, Rodger, Scott, Court, Donnie, Mike, Matthew, Zack, Ethan, and Nick and 12 great-grandchildren:  Kayla, Hannah, Josh, Tierney, Abagale, Londyn, Zack Jr., Avery, Bailee, Keylee, Callie and Braydon and one great-great-grandchild:  Anna.  She is also survived by one sister:  Val Arnett of Michigan and one brother:  Melvin Wininger of Hawaii.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00AM at Salem Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 4-8PM at Weathers Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10AM-time of service at the church.
