Janice Kay (Dorsett) Cooper

August 6, 1943 — October 18, 2017

Mrs. Janice Kay “Jan” Cooper age 74 of Salem passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, October 18 at Baptist Health Floyd.

Jan was born August 6, 1943 in Jeffersonville, Indiana the daughter of John and Pauline Kinder Dorsett.  She was raised in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1961.  Jan worked at Hoosier Uplands for 18 years as an Office Manager and Energy Assistance Program.

Jan is survived by her husband, Larry David Cooper of 55 years, they were married June 22, 1962. Also surviving are two sons:  Troy (Robin) Cooper of Salem and Tim Cooper of Georgia, four grandchildren:  Kayla Cooper of Bloomington, Indiana, Kelsey Cooper of Boston, MA, Kristopher Cooper of Salem and Laura Bell of Georgia, and one sister:  Joyce Holsapple of Salem.  She was preceded in death by one sister and her parents.

Jan will always be remembered for her kind heart, giving nature, and dedication to her family and friends.  She made lasting impressions through her willingness to help people in the community.  Jan loved to go camping, especially the time she spent with her grandchildren on those camping trips.  She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00AM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday form 4-8PM and Saturday from 9AM-time of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Momma J’s Birds at Relay for Life.
