Jane Eleanor (Colglazier) Ingram, 94, passed peacefully on December
14, 2022, in Cincinnati. She was born at home September 17, 1928, in
Salem, IN just prior to the onset of the Great Depression. She is preceded
in death by her parents, Gayle E. and Agnes V. (Nuckles) Colglazier, her
husband, John S. Ingram, Jr., and brother Richard “Dick” Colglazier.
Devoted mother of Linda (Dennis “Rocky”) Spalazzi, J. Rick (Bridget)
Ingram and Todd (Holly) Ingram. Cherished grandmother to five
grandchildren; Ryan (Emily), Gina (Tim), Rachel, Andrew, and Shayne
and seven great-grandchildren.
A 1946 graduate of Salem High School, Jane was active in a broad range
of student activities. In addition to being an award-winning drum major
she was a leader and participant in Drama, Booster Club, Student
Council, and was Senior Class Secretary, Vice-President of the Girls
Athletic Association and Advertising Manager of the student newspaper,
among others.
Jane lived in several Indiana cities before moving in the mid-1950s to
College Hill in Cincinnati where she lived for over 60 years. She was
actively involved in all the school and community activities for her
children. She was also a long-time member and volunteer at College Hill
Presbyterian Church. She was relied on and admired by her co-workers
during her 17 years serving as a secretary in the Cincinnati Public
School System at Winton Place and Chase Elementary schools.
Jane was an avid reader, a master of Sudoku and crossword puzzles, an
Indiana (and Purdue) basketball fan, and enjoyed sharing countless
adventures and stories with her family during many family reunions
and celebrations. She loved road trips to see family and friends, with
many memories of visiting Salem, playing family Tripoli rounds, lunch
outings to Huber’s Orchard and vacationing at the beach with the family,
especially at Hilton Head Island. Along the way there always seemed to
be a Cracker Barrel stop for lunch and shopping.
Jane loved all her family and friends, near and far, and when travel
wasn’t possible, she was sure to keep in touch with her iPad that was
always within reach to email, Facetime and text everyone.
Her bright smile, laugh, generosity and always positive outlook will be
remembered and missed by all who knew her, and they will be
especially missed by her grandkids and great grandkids. To them, she
was “Granny.” They were the loves of her life. She was an irreplaceable
presence and positive influence in their lives, always there for school
and sports events, and special lunches out on the last day of school. She
was the best maker of outstanding after school snacks like micro-magic
fries and drinks with straws, binge-watching Days of our Lives,
Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune, and talking of how well they would do
if participating on these game shows some day.
She loved taking the grandkids to shows and movies and introduced all
of them to her beloved Shirley Temple movies. Jane patiently endured
each one of them practicing driving skills in her car. The birthday and
holiday gifts she always gave brought so much joy and fun to all the
grandkids and great grandkids, and there are endless photos
documenting each occasion to remember our beloved “Granny.”
