Howard Vernie Nicholson age 92 of Salem, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Meadowview Nursing Home.
Mr. Nicholson was born December 20, 1930 in Clark County, Indiana, the son of Manker Nicholson and Phoebe Metzger Nicholson. He was a member of the Vallonia Christian Church and attended Rivers of Living Waters. He was a 1950 High School graduate from Salem High School. On October 30, 1950 he joined the Navy and served on the Battleship Wisconsin USS BB64 for two years and was on the Minecraft Base in Charleston South Carolina, for two years and he was then discharged in 1954. He then went to Hanover College from 1954-1958 earning his Bachelors degree in teaching. He taught high school in Pekin and grade school in Martinsburg until 1961. He attended Louisville Bible College from 1972-1974. He then started 3 churches in Floyd and Jackson County. He’s also a writer and world wide internet ministry for 50 years. He then went on to preach and perform in nursing homes.
In 1980 Howard married Kathleen Stegner Davis, she preceded him in death on, October 5, 2005. He is also preceded by his parents, and his brothers: Millard Nicholson, Willard Nicholson, James Irvin Nicholson, and Arthur Frances Nicholson, Russell Nicholson and his sisters: Lenna Ruth Hampton, Mary Shouse, Doris Bierley, Joyce Medlock and Violet Lou White.
Mr. Nicholson is survived by a step son: Frank Roger Davis of Yuma, Arizona, a step daughter: Sheryl Price (Robert) of Bloomington, Indiana, and two step grandchildren, Jeremy Price (Cherie) of Florida and Christy Pagano (David) of Georgia and two step great grandchildren, Trajan Pagano and Samara Pagano.
Services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 1:00P.M at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00A.M until time of service. Burial will follow at New Liberty Cemetery.
