Harold Thomas “Red” Robbins, age 103, passed away December 26, 2023. Harold was born March 10, 1920 to Homer and Inez Oneal Robbins in Washington County Indiana.
Harold was A graduate of Salem High School, class of 1940, where he participated in the 1939 Basketball team that went to the semi state. He was a World War II Veteran, he joined the Army in 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed. He was a cook and played basketball, baseball and softball. After the service Harold worked as the butcher at Bundy’s Home Grocery for 11 years, then moved to the BF Goodrich Plant here in Salem, where he retired at the age of 55. He was a part time farmer until his age restricted him from the labor.
Harold met and married Jean Gertrude Wininger in 1947 and to that reunion came four children. He lived in the same home from 1947 until 2020 after a fall and moved into a long term care facility.
Harold is survived by one son, Jerry (Karen) Robbins and two daughters, Pam Ingram and Carolyn (Bert) Adkins. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and seven great great grand children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, and one son, Harold (Tom) Robbins Jr., one brother, Stanley Robbins and his parents.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Crown Hill Cemetery.
