Harold Von Humphrey, age 88, passed away peacefully, May 6, 2024 at his home in Salem. He was born March 27, 1936 in Connersville, Indiana, son of Roger and Lavere (Rosenbaum) Humphrey.
He married Priscilla Boling in 1959 and they have 2 daughters, Christy Hunt of Pekin, Indiana and Alisa Piedlau of Trophy Club, Texas, who have given them 4 grandsons: Brad and Josh Flora and Hunter Piedlau of Texas and Dallas Flora of Indiana. Those four grandsons have given them 5 great-grandsons: Wyatt, Cash, Lincoln, Brooks and Victor Flora along with 3 great-granddaughters: Eden, Saleh and Violet Flora, all of Texas.
Harold was always fascinated with airplanes and flight as a youngster. So much so that the tyke once contemplated flying from his grandfather’s barn loft window on a 2X4 to the farmhouse below. Thankfully he did not carry out that thought. He was able to carry out his dream of flying when he flew his small private plane, a Cessna 140, later in life.
Harold retired after 42 years with American Airlines, beginning at Standiford Field in Louisville as a Ramp Agent, loading bags onto planes, and ending his tenure as Supervisor of Passenger Service at Dallas Fort Worth Airport in Texas. He then worked on clearing the land and helped on the building of their retirement home in Salem.
Harold’s survivors include: his wife and daughters, two brothers, Dean of Leesburg, Florida, and Charles (Roddy) of Salem, Indiana, a sister, Martha Nixon of Australia, and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two bothers: Donald of California, and Jerald of Salem.
He is a member of Mt. Tabor Christian Church and has always been active in the Christian life and work of the church, wherever his work took him, often shown in his kind acts for others. He is a member of Gideons International.
