Mr. Gerald Loraine Mays, age 95, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, July 24 at St. Vincent Hospital in Salem.
Mr. Mays was born February 20, 1924 in Washington County, Indiana the son of William and Mary Zink Mays. He was a long-time employee of Williams Construction, and a self-employed mason. He was an elder and song leader at Douglas Church of Christ, and was a member of Salem (High Street) Church of Christ in his later years. Gerald was a World War II Navy veteran and past Commander of the American Legion, Cecil Grimes Post #41.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Marilyn Shrum Mays, a son: Ronald L. Mays, and his parents.
He is survived by a son: Brian Mays (Trahnel) of Phoenix, Arizona, two daughters: Teresa Mays of Salem and Patricia Bowling (Ben) of Salem, thirteen grandchildren: Ronald Mays Jr. (Linda), Kelly Mollet (Darrin), Andy Mays, Wendell Mays, Justin Collier (Jen), Kali Strahl (Aaron), Ryan Mays (Amber), Jane Sherwood (Pat), C.J. Belcher, Lindsay Mays, Aaron Ashabraner (Julie), Eric Ashabraner (Bethany), and Lisa Nice (Tim), fourteen great-grandchildren: Samantha Bradley, Kayla Mollet, Emily Roudenbush, Blake Patch, Rowan Brough, Beatrice Sherwood, Jaelen Nice, Natalie Ashabraner, Alex Ashabraner, Elikia Ashabraner, Johnathan Ashabraner, Elijah Ashabraner, Abigail Ashabraner and Lillian Ashabraner, and three great-great-grandchildren: Zaleand Monroe, Haleigh Brough and Daegan Brough.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30AM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8PM and Saturday from 9AM-time of services.
