Mr. George W. Meahl, age 90, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, February 8 at his home.
Mr. Meahl was born November 6, 1931, in Vallonia, Indiana the son of Roy and Luese Peters Meahl. He was an Army veteran, having served in Korea. He was a member of High Street Church of Christ, VFW, American Legion, 780th Field Artillery Association, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a founding sponsor of the National Museum of the U.S. Army in Washington D.C. George attended Purdue University and was a retired farmer. In 1993, he was named Conservation Farmer of the Year and also received an award of merit for outstanding accomplishments in Resource Conservation. He was named Washington County Master Farmer in 2003.
Mr. Meahl is survived by his wife: Joellen Churchman Meahl. They were married September 1, 1967. He is also survived by two sisters: Donna Wessel of Brownstown and Roslyn Robertson of Brownstown. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Leroy Meahl and Ray Meahl.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11AM at Weathers Funeral Home with Danny Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8PM and Wednesday from 9AM-time of service.
