Gary Adkins

Mr. Gary Adkins, age 71, of Salem, passed away Monday, December 19 at his son’s home.

Mr. Adkins was born December 20, 1950, in Pikeville, Kentucky the son of Whetzel and Zettie Calhoun Adkins.  He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Company and also as a school bus driver for Salem Schools.  He was a member of Westside Church of Christ. He learned to play musical instruments at a young age and enjoyed playing, writing, and performing bluegrass music his whole life.

Gary was preceded in death by his wife:  Janice C. Adkins on October 5, 2021, a daughter:  Gina Tanksley, three brothers:  Carlos, Bob and Bill Adkins, and his parents.  He is survived by his children:  Gary Wayne Adkins (Nicole) of Memphis, Indiana, Ted Taylor of Salem, Damion Adkins of Salem, and Laraine Moore (Gary) of Bedford, two brothers:  David Adkins of Salem, and Bert Adkins of Salem, three sisters:  Bonnie Evaline of Salem, Sue Soliday of Arkansas, and Kathy Humphrey of Salem, eight grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11AM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8PM and Thursday from 10AM-time of service.
