Mrs. Eva Louise Shull Colglazier, age 101, of Salem, passed away Sunday, November 29 at Hampton Oaks in Scottsburg.
Eva was born on March 25, 1919 in Salem, Indiana to James Dawson and Jossie Baker Shull. Eva married Nevil Colglazier on December 13, 1941 and together they owned Colglazier Orchards for 50 years.
Eva Shull Colglazier was a faithful member of Fort Hill Church of Christ from 1940 until her death and served the community as she participated in Community Club 31, knitted caps for newborns, and volunteered at Salem Community Hospital for 25 years in the gift shop and at the welcome desk. She loved her family and the people who worked at the orchard, tirelessly serving them with food and drink as she and they worked in the sales room, the packing shed, and in the orchard. Eva was an exemplary mother and wife as she supported her home daily with three meals and a long list of laundry, cleaning, gardening, and preserving food to be accomplished. Her selflessness extended to all in the Fort Hill community as she prepared food for the sick and the bereaved. She visited the shut-in and the lonely. Ever vigilant for a reunion of family, she and Nevil made numberless homemade ice cream treats and potato salad for the Shulls and the Colglaziers at Spring Mill picnics or in their back yard during nice summer afternoons. Even after she retired from the orchard work, she continued to keep house through her 97th year and knitted over 35 blankets as gifts to family and friends. Her children and her grandchildren rise up to call her blessed. She is surely honored more than rubies and emeralds in the hearts of her family who gathered in Salem to memorialize her life.
