Eugene K Miller

Mr.Eugene K. Miller age 83 of Fredericksburg  passed away Saturday, February 1 at his home.

Mr. Miller was born March 26, 1930 in Louisville, Kentucky the son of Huston G. and Gertrude Schenkenfelder Miller.   He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Salem where he served as bookkeeper and as a member of parish council and numerous committees.   He was formerly employed by American Standard, Standard Oil,  and Sheet Metal Workers.  He was owner of Gene’s Tavern in Buechel.  He was a volunteer  football and boys and girls track coach for 22 years, from 1966-1988 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St. Gabriel, Resurrection, Guardian Angel, and St. Elizabeth schools.  He also coached student athletes in the Junior Olympics.  He was a 35 plus year volunteer for Boy Scouts of America.  He was Cubmaster,  Scoutmaster and Catholic Committee on Scouting.  He received the Silver Beaver award and St. George Award.  He was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran , serving as a submariner.   He also served in the Naval Reserves.  Mr. Miller was a Maker’s Mark Ambassador.  He was a U of L football season ticket holder for 30 years and a member of the Crunch Zone.

He is survived by his wife:  Lois M. Vassie Miller of Fredericksburg.  They were married May 15, 1954.  He is also survived by five children:  Michael E. Miller (Barbara) of Louisville, Steven K. Miller (Mary) of Floyds Knobs, Robert J. Miller (Beth) of Fredericksburg, Brenda M. Hester (Cliff) of Campbellsburg, Indiana and Brian A. Miller of Fredericksburg, 11 grandchildren:  Laura Ellis, Michael Miller II, Cynthia D. Taylor (Joshua), Kristen M. Blizard (Robert), Erin N. Miller (Mitchell McGill), Kenneth A. Miller (Cheralyn), Shanna M. McKitrick, Rebecca S. McKitrick, Joshua F. Hester, Isaiah F. Hester, and Ashley L. Box, five great grandchildren:  Adam C. Ellis, Miles J. Taylor, Alexander M. Taylor, Laith A. Taylor,  and Jacob I. Blizard.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8PM and Friday from 9-10:30AM at Weathers Funeral HomeEugene K. Miller age 83 of Fredericksburg
