Ellen Rose (Kay) Chastain went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 21, 2020 (her birthday), at the age of 92. Born in White Pigeon, MI, Ellen later moved with her family to Pekin, IN where she would meet her husband of 55 years, Ivan L. Chastain. Ellen and Ivan began married life in Indianapolis, IN, later moved to Decatur, GA, and eventually retired in Fruitland Park, FL. While a housewife for the majority of her life, Ellen did work in retail sales briefly. Her love for children attracted her to childcare during retirement. Ellen enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, singing, and most of all her church activities. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church for many years, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was loved by all who knew her. After Ivan’s death in 2003, she moved to Dacula, GA to be nearer to her three children. Survivors include her son Benjamin L. Chastain (Vickie) of Acworth, GA; daughters Priscilla C. Aaron (Frank) of Salem, SC, and Loretta E. Denmark (Tony) of Monroe, GA; 9 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren; a cousin--George Purlee, and several nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Marguerite Purlee Kay, as well as her 2 brothers—James Kay and Marion (Pete) Kay; and 3 sisters—Betty Ann Wilson, Juanita Wyman, and Alice Marie Stivers.
A graveside service and interment for Ellen will be held at Old Union Cemetery, Campbellsburg, IN. Due to restrictions related to COVID-19, services will be private and a public memorial service will be held at a later time.
Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel & Gardens, Buford, GA and Weathers Funeral Home, Salem, IN have coordinated arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lost River Primitive Baptist Cemetery, 4140 S. Possum Hollow, Campbellsburg, IN, or a church or charity of your choice.
