Mr. Dale Simler, age 92, passed away at his home in the early morning on October 6, 2021.
Dale was born August 12, 1929 in Valley City, Indiana. He later moved to Corydon where he graduated from Corydon High School and was soon after drafted in to the United States Army in May of 1952. He served in several different places including Germany and Korea. He was discharged from active service on August 31, 1958 and on August 31, 1961 he was discharged from the Army Air Force Reserves. Dale was a working man and did several things, including working for his father, the late Ira E. Simler, running a John Deere business in Corydon, Indiana. He also ran a real estate business, United Farm Agency, with his father. He drove a semi for several years delivering pipe and also owned and taught his own truck driving school. He owned his own ice cream business, Salem Maid Ice Cream, for two years before selling. He partnered with R & D homes and sold houses until he retired to take care of his farm north of Salem. Dale was a lifetime member of Christian Heritage Chapel.
Dale leaves behind his wife of 73 years, Isma E. Simler, one brother: Alfred Ray Simler, one daughter: Linda, and the late Ray Jacobs, and two grandchildren: Melissa (Brad) Tucker and Brian (Katie) Weston, five great grandchildren: Rebecca (Ethan) Braid, Omar, Alexus, and Gwyn Tucker, Trey Weston, and one great-great granddaughter: Cabella Braid.
Dale was preceded in death by his son: Kevin Dale Simler and his parents: Ira and Angela Simler.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2PM at Weathers Funeral Home with Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9AM-until time of services.
