Mr. Earnest Denver Gibson age 83 passed away Wednesday, March 14 in Augusta, Georgia.
Mr. Gibson was born July 27, 1928 in Letcher County, Kentucky the son of Harrison Gibson and Nettie Irene Bentley Gibson. In his late teens, his family moved to Pekin, Indiana. He served his country during WWII in the Army 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After retiring as a truck driver, he moved to Avera, Georgia in 1995 where he enjoyed travelling, hunting and fishing. Ernie was a giving, generous person who was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. Never having married and not having any children of his own, he loved his nieces and nephews as his own. Known by many names-Uncle Den, Ernie, Cigar, The Can Man, or Mr. Earnest-he will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by all of his siblings: Estille Gibson, Albert Gibson, Edith Gibson Bentley, Edward James Gibson, Elbert Eugene Gibson, and Earl James Gibson. Survivors include his nephew: Wayne Gibson, great-nephew: Nick Gibson and several nieces , nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews in Indiana, Kentucky and Texas.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Gibson, Nick Gibson, Roger M. Polly, Hairl Roberts, Todd Roberts, Christopher Stroud and Mark Stroud.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21 at 11:00AM at Weathers Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Washington Cemetery, Pekin, Indiana.
