Dr. Martin F. Kennedy, DDS age 80 of Salem passed away Friday, December 30 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.

Dr. Kennedy was born October 24, 1936 in Depauw, Indiana the son of Woodrow Wilson Kennedy and Lucille Totten Kennedy. He was a dentist and minister at many area churches of Christ. He was an Air Force Veteran and had built an airplane that won the Wright Brothers Award in the Dayton Air Show. He was a member of Westside Church of Christ, Salem Rotary, where he received the Paul Harris Fellow Award, South Central Dental Society, IDA and ADA as well as various area community organizations.

He is survived by his wife: Wanda Carwile Kennedy. They were married February 15, 1990. He is also survived by three sons: Tim Kennedy (Stephanie) of Salem, Steve Kennedy of Louisville and Isaac Kennedy of Salem, a daughter: Wendy Thompson of Milltown, a step-daughter: Tina Wininger of Salem, two sisters: Shirley Lewellen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Marlene Gentry of Indianapolis, six grandchildren: Danielle Sanchez, Stephanie Williams, Toni Thompson, Gunnar Kennedy, Lauren Kennedy and Mitchell Kennedy, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Tylene Josephine Kennedy in 1989, a brother: Michael Kennedy a sister: Ellen Nash and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00AM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8PM and Wednesday from 9AM-time of service.
