Mr. Darren Keith Blackwell, age 89, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, September 28 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.
Mr. Blackwell was born February 21, 1932 in Redlands, California the son of Charles Everett and Thelma Parmelee Blackwell. He was an elder and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salem. He was a United States Airforce Veteran. He was a lifelong Scouter, and CASA volunteer.
He is survived by his wife: Karna Kay Gunnerson Blackwell, they were married November 16, 1963. He is also survived by two sons: Eric Kent Blackwell (Jennifer) of Jeffersonville, and Jeffrey Owen Blackwell (Sandra) of Salem, a foster daughter: Samantha Sanford Grimes of Lockeford, CA, a sister: Virginia Robinson of Hesperia, CA, eight grandchildren: Cameron Blackwell, Darren C. Blackwell, Jamie Strong, Jordan Blackwell, Logan K. Blackwell, Brenna Hanchett, Cody Blackwell, and Parker Blackwell, and 4 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a sister: Shirley Ann Wentzel and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM Monday, October 4, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 1500 N. Shelby St. Salem, IN 47167. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30PM at Weathers Funeral Home and on Monday from 9AM-until time of service at the church.
