Chester Ray Sowder

July 13, 1931 — January 31, 2015

Mr. Chester Ray Sowder age 83 of Salem passed away Saturday, January 31 at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Sowder was born July 13, 1931 in Mount Vernon, Kentucky the son of Casper and Martha Robbins Sowder.  He was a retired employee of Childcraft.  He was a member of Washington County Coon Hunters Club and was a Korean War Army veteran.

Chester married Laura Elsie Gray on January 23, 1957.  He is survived by his wife:  Laura Elsie Sowder of Salem, two sons:  Gary Sowder (Tammi) of Salem and Jerry Sowder of Salem, two daughters:  Patricia Shepherd (John) of Salem and Sharon Powers (Kenny) of Salem, two brothers:  Albert Sowder of Salem and Vearl Sowder of Salem, a sister:  AnnaMae Nicholson of Salem, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers:  Walter, Keith, Russell, Howard, Charles and Lester Benton Sowder, a sister:  Linda Jones and a grandson:  Jarrod Sowder.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00PM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Winslow Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8PM and Wednesday from 9AM-time of service.
