Mrs. Bertha Lee Gilstrap, age 93, of Salem, passed away Monday, September 11 at the Beehive Homes of Scottsburg.
Mrs. Gilstrap was born February 2, 1930 in Manchester, Kentucky the daughter of James and Charity Boling Hurd. She retired from Jeans Extrusions. She enjoyed attending several congregations and denominations locally, and sporting events. Bertha was an artist and even published her own book Remembering My Life in the Hills of Kentucky.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Victor H. Gilstrap, two sons: Jeffery Gilstrap, and Jesse Gilstrap, a daughter: Vickie Weidman, two brothers: Johnie Hurd, and Toots Hurd, one grandson: Bobby England, a son-in-law: Ralph England, and her parents.
Bertha is survived by two daughters: Dedera England of Salem, and Jaulita Walther (Chris) of Corydon, a brother: Bill Hurd of Manchester, Kentucky, two daughters-in-laws: Paula Salisbury, and Gigi Gilstrap, 17 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM, Monday, September 18 at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-6PM and Monday from 9AM-until time of service.
