Anita Kay (Voyles) Walton

Mrs. Anita Kay Walton, age 78, of Campbellsburg, passed away Saturday, October 1 at Norton’s Pavilion Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Anita was born July 9, 1944, in Washington County, Indiana to the late Luther and Marjorie Marie Jones Voyles.

Anita graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1962.  She was a member of Douglas Church of Christ.  On January 21, 1962, she married Jerry Arthur Walton who preceded her in death on August 16, 1993.  She then married Lannie Zink in October of 1996 and he also preceded her in death.

She is survived by three daughters:  Jennifer Hawk (Larry) of Orleans, Jana Walton of Salem, and Julie Gray of Campbellsburg, two brothers:  Paul Voyles of Salem and George Voyles of Salem, and a sister:  Gina James of Seymour, seven grandsons:  Jared Hawk, Seth Walton, Micah Gray, Thomas Gray, Jacob Gray, Michael Gray, and Isaac Gray, and six great-grandchildren.

Anita was a hard worker all her life, she served cook at West Washington High School from 1976-1989.  After her husband’s sudden death, she went to work at Dana Corporation in Mitchell from 1993 until her retirement in 2003.  Anita was a devoted wife and mother with many talents.  She is an author of three successful books, “Early Schools in Washington County”, “Indiana Schools, Past and Present”, and “Becks Mill, Past and Present”.  Her passion for the old one room schools was contagious. She firmly believed that students today could benefit from the old one room schools.  Anita was a skilled seamstress, wonderful cook, and pianist.  Most of all, she was a loving mother and treasured spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was much loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home with George Parsley officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 11AM-1PM.  Burial will be in Smedley Cemetery at a later date.
