Alice T (Tuell) Smith

Alice Tuell Smith, 92 years of age, of Salem, Indiana, went to meet her Lord on March 22, 2013.  For two years preceding her death, Mrs. Smith resided at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Mrs. Smith was born in Indianapols, Indiana on December 18, 1920 to Alvin Bennett and Stella Collins Tuell.  She was married to Paul W. Smith in Salem in 1944.  Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband and two sisters, May Ramsey and Ruth Weber.

Mrs. Smith graduated from Salem High School in 1939.  She retired after working for many years as a bookkeeper at the Farm Bureau Co-op in Salem.  She was a faithful Christian all her adult life, teaching Sunday school, printing the church bulletin and transporting children and older adults to worship services.

In her younger years, Mrs. Smith enjoyed fishing, water skiing, and playing tennis.  She raised a large garden and worked hard canning and freezing produce for her family.  Mrs. Smith was gentle and kind, a quiet example of her Christian faith to all who knew her.  In addition, her quick wit delighted all, most recently, the residents and staff at Hampton Oaks.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Becky Green and her husband, Bo Green of Abilene, Texas, and Paula McClellan and her husband, Boyd McClellan of Salem.  Other survivors include seven grandchildren:  Tony McClellan, Rho Green, Tricia McClellan, Tuell Green, Tim McClellan, Lenna Lowery and Heidi Solyu, 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Mrs. Smith's life will be held Wednesday at 11:00AM at Weathers Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8PM and Wednesday from 9AM-time of service.
